Descripción
Bernardo Krause es Bioquímico de la Universidad de Chile, y Doctor en Ciencias Fisiológicas con mención en Fisiología de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. En esta última institución comenzó su trabajo como académico en el Departamento de Neonatología de la Facultad de Medicina, y actualmente es Profesor Asistente en el Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud de la Universidad de O'Higgins. El efecto del crecimiento fetal alterado y las trayectorias de desarrollo temprano en humanos bajo diversas condiciones perinatales ha sido el foco principal de la línea de investigación del Dr. Krause. Participa como director y co-investigador, en estudios dirigidos a proporcionar evidencia sobre los mecanismos que actúan en la disfunción vascular e inmune resultante de un crecimiento fetal deteriorado, así como el efecto nocivo de las afecciones maternas y el estrés durante los primeros años de vida, como condicionantes de la salud a largo plazo. Esta línea de investigación se centró inicialmente en los mecanismos celulares que participan en la disfunción endotelial, pero hoy en día está abierta a integrar estos procesos con respuestas fisiológicas, biomecánicas y epigenéticas que tienen lugar a nivel sistémico, utilizando modelos experimentales complementarios y con un enfoque transdisciplinario.
